The Pinterest Series: Food (Recipe review #1)

Hey guys! I bet you thought I forgot about you. But NAAAH. I've been here, cooking, not cooking, job searching, not job searching, looking to relocate etc. etc. There's no shortage of things that I need to do. Wish I didn't have to do a damn thing, but that is LIFE. Anyway, moving on to more pressing matters. FOOD for instance. I've made this Sweet Korean Lentils recipe from the blog 'It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken' twice now. It is fast. It is easy, doesn't involve an extensive list of ingredients and not to mention its affordable! Did I also forget to mention how tasty it was?

Sweet Korean Lentils: What I used to make this recipe

This recipe didn't require any type of preparation, so If you need a quick last minute meal idea (as I often do). This one is definitely a winner to throw into your last minute meal rotation, especially if you are a fan of Asian cuisine.

All of these ingredients are easy to find in your local grocery store. I forgot to include the lentils in the picture. But they shouldn't be hard to find. Just look in the section where they keep the rest of the dried peas and beans. If not, just ask someone!

Sweet Korean Lentils: The saucey mix!

The second time that I made this dish I added extra garlic and ginger. I loved the extra kick. So if you also like to shake things up, then throw a little extra in too. Don't be afraid to amplify those flavors!

Sweet Korean Lentils: Sautee them onions girl (or boy), no tears.

If you are one of those people who say "oh, I'm not really good at cooking" or you have trouble "following" recipes....I think you can definitely handle this one! Give it a go. If you can read. You can go ahead and follow this recipe to get the Sweet Korean Lentils of your dreams ;)

Sweet Korean Lentils: Put it all together and what do you get?

The aromas from this dish are totally inviting and you will be ready to dive in ASAP, so make sure you have the rest of the accompaniments ready.

Sweet Korean Lentils: A versatile hot meal!

I really enjoyed this dish guys. Like seriously. As basic as it is, its so VERSATILE. You can enjoy it with rice (whichever you prefer- brown, white, wild) or even noodles. I even tried it on a bun like a vegan sloppy joe version. I would show you a picture, but you should just try it for yourself, it didn't look too cute in a photo. I might even try this on a baked potato in the near future.

Here's the link again to the blog with the recipe (Sweet Korean Lentils). Prefer a meaty dish? Do a google search for Mongolian beef. I can't recall the exact recipe I used when I used to make it, but the ingredients are quite similar (Mongolian beef recipe).

Have you already tried it? What are your thoughts?

The Pinterest Series: Food

Welcome back if you're a returning reader!

For my newbies. Welcome. Welcome. WELCOME.

Wave your hands in the air if you're ready to explore PINTEREST! Let's get started. So I've made a little list of things that I want to try. I share a lot of food, health/fitness and hair pins...so it'll more than likely be of that variety. The rest are more informational, but if you are interested in a productivity pin, I'd be willing to test it out and post about how that went too (just leave a comment below to let me know).

I'm going to divide the posts by categories (food, drink, hair, etc.) I won't be trying these out in any particular order. There will be a minimum of 5 pinterest posts per category. I'll do them individually, because if you are like me and have a somewhat short attention span or aren't a fan of "too much" reading then yeah, you totally get me.

FOOD. I love to eat, don't mind cooking, but despise having to wash up. That's life though right? I mostly only eat once or twice a day out of "laziness" or being too busy catering to Rosie (she likes foods which I may or may not be interested in or don't really eat that often). Bad habit. I know. I think my favourite meal of the day is dinner. Not really a big breakfast fan as cereal isn't something I live for (some people do!). I would/could eat pancakes everyday but that probably would not be a good idea. I'm not a big meat lover because I'm not interested in seeing the veins and/or tendons as I'm biting into a chicken leg. This could be due to one too many college biology dissection labs...I don't know. I get a little grossed out, but I don't have a problem cooking it. I would love to be a vegetarian, except I love a good cheeseburger every now and then. *Hellooo Five Guys*

The first food pin that I really cannot wait to try is this Sweet Korean Lentils recipe. I love lentils and the ingredients remind me of this Mongolian beef recipe that I used to make pretty often. This recipe only takes 15 minutes so that is a big win in my eyes. Not to mention it isn't some big extensive or expensive ingredient list. This pin originated from the vegan recipe blog, It Doesn't Taste like Chicken. I'm glad that I have discovered this because I just want to scale back from meat in a big way right now, and this blog looks like its on the money with such a variety of meals.

This will be the only pin that involves meat. Sorry to all you carnivores out there. There may be some meaty posts in the future...just not this time around. In this recipe the meat used is turkey. I know a lot of people aren't too fussed by turkey because they say it's dry. I guess mostly the breast portion? But I love it. Mostly the roasted variety that involves the "Thanksgiving trimmings". This recipe is a combo of pan frying and baking. Garlic Parmesan Turkey Breast Cutlets appears to be another easy quick and easy dinner idea. I love the flavour of garlic so I can't see how this could possibly go wrong.

Next is this Maple-orange glazed chickpeas and carrots recipe. Chickpeas taste awesome. They are versatile and great source of protein. The perfect replacement if embarking on a meat-free diet. Chickpeas are something else I could eat everyday, but only if they're prepared in different ways. In this dish they are teamed up with the sweet taste of carrots and maple syrup and some citrus zest from the orange. Sounds amazing right?

The fourth, but not final meal, which I am excited to try is this Creamy Red Pepper Alfredo sauce to throw on some possibly gluten free pasta. Pasta can put weight on you (like most carbs), but it is such an easy go to meal! Boil some water, throw pasta in, cook 'til tender, drain then toss in some sauce and VOILA! A 'complete' meal. With this red pepper alfredo sauce you can cut back on the fat content by using... cashews! therefore increasing the protein content. Then imagine replacing the pasta with a spiralled veggie noodle or gluten free pasta. You got yourself a guilt free meal.

The final food pin for the Pinterest series is *drum roll* Sweet Potato Falafel. I love falafels. I enjoy a good sweet potato, whether baked whole, as fries, or mashed. To have them together is well...an honour! I can eat falafels on a bed of lettuce, in a wrap, or in a panini. The possibilities are almost endless. This recipe isn't too labor intensive and as I'm seeing with the rest of my four 'to tries', not containing a whole bunch of expensive ingredients.

Thanks for reading

Any Pinterest Enthusiasts out there?

Let's talk about the business that is PINTEREST!

Flash back to my previous post on my procrastinating ways, my laziness also gets in the way of life. I've had Pinterest for so many years now and have pinned many things from good eats to great drinks, best exercises to blast belly fat to sinfully sweet treats! You name it, I've pinned it. But have I tried half of em? Nope. A quarter of them? Not even! So what exactly am I waiting for? Lord knows.

I'm currently a stay at home mom with not much else to do. (But really... I'm almost always busy, there's never a shortage in housework!) That being said I should really get to trying and exploring my pins right?

Well let's do this. I'll explore some of my awesome pins from a plethora of sources. There are really some talented, creative folk out there. I just think it's so cool how we can all connect and learn from each other. Pick up new skills, then go on to teach others. You know? Each one, Teach one.

Look out for my next blog post to see the Pinterest-to-do list!

Revelation: I'm a Procrastinating Perfectionist

I have a problem. In my head, I'm extremely ambitious. I have these 'visions' of how I want things to be done or there's a certain outcome that I expect. Too many times... the reality is a borderline epic FAIL. So then what happens is, I start to put things off in order to avoid disappointing myself or failing. Talk about giving up before getting started. Not good right? Therefore... I'm deeming myself a procrastinating perfectionist.

Wait. Is that even a thing? *hits google, starts typing procrastinating perfectionist* 342,000 results in 0.48 seconds. Yessiiii google to the rescue!

I haven't got all of my technology up to scratch, so I've been putting off doing posts (out of fear of posting inadequate non-tech savvy posts, but everyones gotta start somewhere right!)

This post has been sitting here unpublished for a loooong a** time. And you know what...Here goes nothing... It's publishing time.

Do you suffer from being a PP? What are some ways you got around it? Drop a comment, share your thoughts. Let's turn this around together!

Working on Something (other than myself )...

You guys. Hi. I promise I am not quitting this blog! I'm just really facing challenges with technology amongst other things, which will become apparent in the post I'm working on.

I'm not like a super people person or anything, but once I'm comfortable with someone I may be more open to somewhat deeper conversation. Okay, brace yourself! I'm about to 'waffle' on about a whole lot of nothingness becaaaause I actually NEED to. So, I know a fair amount of people- friends/family/acquaintances/whatevers, but I don't feel like I can talk to all these people about the all the loco going on in my mind. Now when I say that, I mean that I'm 'challenged' in sorting through my thoughts, not to the point of needing to be medicated or anything-at least I hope not, but it's just a LOT of Stuff.  It is just too much going on in there. You know? So if I break it down bit by bit and process small chunks, I'm hoping I can get somewhere and move ahead with all the things that I would like to do. I have loads of ideas, about things I want to do or make...but they're just that IDEAS. I would love to see them come into realisation...get me? Some are big. Some are small, but maybe talking to someone relevant in regards to the idea could lead me somewhere.

The other thing is, I think somewhere along my 25+ years of life I became a little more introverted with each passing year! I don't like too much attention or fuss, it makes me uncomfortable...I know there's someone out there who feels the same way...or not. So why the hell did I even bother starting this blog is beyond me, sort of. I guess I just feel like sharing my journey while I'm still trying to chart it. I mess up all the time and I've learned to embrace that and use it as a learning tool to keep going, push harder and evolve. Hence the blog name: NascentNads. I didn't want to come right out and tell you the meaning of 'nascent', because I was hoping it would challenge you to find out for yourself. I really love the word as I feel like its perfect for me. This is only the second post, but the wait has been long enough :)

NASCENT: just coming into existence and beginning to display signs of future potential.

See! It is soooo Me. With that being said... Welcome to my world.

The Intro

I don't know how you found this page or what brought you here... but WELCOME!

A few years back I had started a blog (Let's Hair It) and sort of forgot about it and neglected it as I got all wrapped up with university and life and I think it (the blog) and I need a revival! I'm actually starting it over as I want to incorporate more than just the things I do with my 'hair and food'. This is more like a LIFE blog for me.

A few things have happened since I was last on here. I've grown out and BC'd my hair AGAIN (hopefully for the last time!), had a beautiful baby girl, she's now 2...almost 2 and a half! and finally graduated from university with a BSc in Pharmaceutical Science. To start my career I've decided to stay here in England....and I'm strongly considering a Master's program.

This has been a long and somewhat stressful journey, but I made it!

What I intend to share with you on this blog is a variety of things from natural hair, food, travel, DIY, and of course my little blossoming Rosie.

This is me navigating through life, trying to raise a queen and evolving as an individual---> coming into existence.
